What is character education?

Character education is a purposeful educational process that develops an individual’s personal traits and dispositions (sometimes called ‘virtues’) in order to help them become an empathetic, perceptive and independent thinker.

Taking place across all of an individual's experiences (in school, at home, at work, etc.), character education helps in the acquisition and strengthening of traits that lead to:

  1. being able to pursue a well-rounded life

  2. being able to find meaning in the things you do and feel fulfilled by them

  3. being able to contribute to society and your community.*
