Site visit to primary school in Tsing Yi

Last week Kigumi reps had the opportunity to tag along with the EDiversity 教育大同 team on a site visit to one of their partner schools in Tsing Yi and got to see some fantastic social-emotional + project-based learning from their Year 2 students. EDiversity, a NGO serving public school students and teachers across 15 Hong Kong schools in educational innovation and curricular advisory, is working with Kigumi on their “Learning by Doing” (LBD) pedagogical framework.

The project: go into their local community, conduct interviews of mothers/caretakers, the elderly and those with special needs to record their needs, and then back in the classroom design potential solutions for those needs using found materials.

Project results included a playground for children with visual impairments (you navigate it using auditory cues); a family-friendly rest area in a mall; escalators for the elderly with cushioned seats; and, my favorite, a free weekly exercise programme for the elderly where prizes include packets of soy sauce, rice and other staples.

Kigumi is proud to be working with EDiversity and local public partner schools like this in Hong Kong one to further enhance social-emotional learning, and looking forward to moving into the next phase to explore how to extend these core communication and critical thinking skills into a foundation curriculum for responsible AI / metacognition for local Hong Kong students.
