Ethics and Craft Beer
Kigumi Group is honoured to be working with Hong Kong’s homegrown craft beer brand Yardley Brothers on a project focused on emphasising values, character, and quality. Through the project, Kigumi Group will be advising on key aspects of values and branding during Yardley Brothers’s current phase of expansion and investment.
Thanks Yardley Brothers for the inspiration and reminder of the spirit of artisan-made products from a humane, community-oriented family business!

Talk at Smith College
Kigumi Group was grateful to be invited to present to an Intro to Logic class of students at Smith College, one of the leading liberal arts & sciences colleges in the USA.
The presentation, conducted via Zoom and reaching students spread from Massachusetts to Shanghai, highlighted the journey of building Kigumi Group thus far, the value of the skills learnt in a liberal arts & sciences environment like Smith (including critical thinking, communication, empathy, and character), and encouraged students to focus on “who” they wanted to be now and in the future, as opposed to only focussing on “what” they wanted to be and what they wanted to achieve professionally.
Students shared positive feedback after the session, particularly on the novelty of a character-based perspective to career planning.
A big thank you to Dr. Theresa Helke for organising and hosting the Kigumi Group for this wonderful opportunity!

Workshop at Alibaba
Kigumi Group was grateful to be invited to present to Alibaba’s global parenting ERG on 27 May 2021.
The online workshop, “Why build character? The importance of instilling values for a lifetime” was attended by more than 90 employees and covered an introduction to character education in a multi-cultural context (including the concept across Asian and Western contexts), the risks of cultivating intellectual skills without a layer of character, and everyday tips for cultivating character in your children.
Thank you to Rilly Chen for organising and making this session possible!

Kigumi Group at Avendale Open House
Kigumi Group was honoured to be invited to share about character education with visitors and prospective students during Avendale International Kindergarten’s recent open house in Hong Kong.
Parents and caretakers participated in art and music activities facilitated by Kigumi Group that emphasised the value of character building and emotional intelligence from an early age - both practices that Avendale also actively promotes amongst their students as part of their child-centric, play-based environment.
Thank you to all participants for stopping by to chat and learn more about character education!

Parenting Workshop at Harbour School Hong Kong
Kigumi Group was grateful to be invited to present a workshop on character education to parents at the Harbour School Hong Kong on 6 May 2019.
The presentation covered the basics of character education for school-aged children, explained how focusing on building character contributes to overall well-being for the long-term, and provided practical tips to parents on how to help their children cultivate their own character on a day-to-day basis with the help of parental role modelling.
The session concluded with a Q&A session for parents on how to troubleshoot challenging or problematic behaviours using a character-based approach.
Thank you to the Harbour School Hong Kong for organising and hosting a lovely evening for all.

Rebranding Announcement
We are pleased to announce that we are undergoing a rebranding exercise and will be relaunching soon under the name Kigumi Group (previously The Knowledge Exchange)!
Our new name draws inspiration from the Japanese wood-working technique kigumi, in which all parts of a joint are held together by their complementary pressure and which does not rely on any artificial glue or nails. Here at Kigumi Group, we feel a person’s (or organisation’s) character should be like kigumi - a holistic, balanced set of principles and parts held together by their own internal strength, not by external pressures or incentives.
Thank you to all our advisors and supporters who provided feedback and participated during this process. We look forward to a new chapter ahead!

Philosophy with Children Workshops in Partnership with Local Children’s Bookstore
The Knowledge Exchange is pleased to announce that we have concluded our final session of Philosophy with Children workshops with our first cohort of 8 youngsters!
Over the course of our camp children read and discussed philosophical elements of 4 picture books, including topics like:
What is beauty? Does art have to be beautiful or nice looking? Does everyone have to agree about what art is? (accompanied by “Ish” by Peter Reynolds)
How do you know what you know? Can you think of a reason for everything you believe or know? (accompanied by “Morris the Moose” by B. Wiseman)
What makes up a community? Can you belong to a community even if you are different from other members in some way? (accompanied by “The Big Orange Splot” by Daniel Pinkwater)
What does it mean to be or to have a friend? Do our friends have to be similar to us? Can our friendships change who we are? (accompanied by “Peach & Blue” by Sarah S. Kilbourne)
A big thanks, too, to our partner My Imagination Kingdom for providing the venue for these sessions.
